Essential Science Announces Business Collaboration
Edzell, July 16 2007 - Essential Science Ltd is working with BioAgency AG, Hamburg, Germany, to identify licensing opportunities for BioAgency's novel, proprietary bacterial target and screening assay.
BioAgency's subsidiary, Novologix, has discovered that a ubiquitous, well characterized bacterial protein also plays a pivotal role in the formation of the bacterial cytoskeleton. In addition Novologix have developed and validated a screening assay which has been used to identify novel small molecule compounds with bactericidal activity. The ubiquitous nature of this protein in bacteria and its absence in eukaryotes, makes this a potentially important target for novel antibiotics active against both G-ve and G+ve bacteria.
There is continuing unmet medical need for novel antibiotics against resistant bacterial strains and increasing interest in antibiotics against G-ve organisms for which there are few programs in development.
